Did you Know?

This shirt was worn by Cristiano Doni during the Serie A game between Lecce and Atalanta which took place in Lecce, “Ettore Giardiniero”, on October 28th 2001. Atalanta defeated Lecce 2-0 and Doni scored one of the two goals and at the end of the game Doni swapped his shirt with a Lecce’s player whom we got it from. Doni was known for his vision, technical ability and creativity as an offensive midfield playmaker. He was capable of scoring and assisting alike, due to his powerful and accurate mid-range shot. After two seasons at U.C. Sampdoria, Doni had his first experience abroad aged 32, signing with Spain’s RCD Mallorca. After just one season, he returned to his main team even though he had another year running at the Balearic Islands side, asking to be released so he could accept Atalanta’s offer although he took a pay cut in the process. Doni eventually signed a two-year contract, then proceeded to continue, in spite of his age, to be an indispensable offensive unit – 34 league goals in his first three years combined – as well as team captain. In 2010–11 the 37-year-old scored 12 Serie B goals as Atalanta returned to the top division after one year, as champions.

Gómez “Papu” Alejandro

Did you Know?

This shirt was worn by Alejandro “Papu” Gómez during the Serie A game between Milan and Atalanta which took place in Milano, “Giuseppe Meazza” Stadium, on July 24th 2020. Atalanta draw 1-1. Following Giacomo Bonaventura’s departure to Milan on 1 September 2014, Atalanta acquired Gómez on the same day, signing him on a three-year deal in the last hours of the summer transfer window in Italy. Gómez had a decent first season, contributing 3 goals and 2 assists in 24 appearances to a poor, offensively-challenged Nerazzurri squad that struggled and narrowly avoided relegation, finishing fourth from the bottom, 3 points ahead of Serie B-bound Cagliari. The following season, Papu lead his club in both goals and assists, with 7 and 6 respectively, as he rekindled the form he had shown in his final season at Catania, and, despite the continued lack of attacking support, steered Atalanta to a respectable 13th-place finish in the league. His performances spurred the interest of several big clubs, which pushed the Bergamese side to extend his contract until June 2020, on 4 February 2016. During the 2016–17 season, Gómez managed to score an unprecedented total of 16 goals as his team finished in the fourth place contrary to the lower pre-season expectations. In 2017, following the departure and retirement of Cristian Raimondi, he became the team’s captain. As captain, Gomez helped lead Atalanta to a historic third-place finish in the 2018–19 Serie A season, earning a spot in the 2019–20 UEFA Champions League, as well as the 2019 Coppa Italia Final. Gomez scored his first Champions League goal on 26 November 2019 with a brilliant piece of individual ability in a 2–0 home win against Dinamo Zagreb.

Christmas Special Shirt

Iličić Josip

Did you Know?

This is a Christmas Limited Edition kit issued for the Serie A game between Atalanta and A.S. Roma which took place in Bergamo, “Gewiss Stadium”, on December 18th 2021. The Christmas 2022 supposed to be the 12th Christmas in a row to be celebrated by the club with a special limited edition shirt that the team supposed to wear the week before Christmas and then being auctioned to raise money for local charity’s foundations. But this year, this event has been cancelled at the very last minute due a big mistake made by the team’s supplier Joma with the design of the shirt. As reported by Italian media, the skyline at the bottom of the jersey is not Bergamo (the Atalanta’s city, but instead Turin). Most notably is the Mole Antonelliana, which is located in Turin and can be seen in the center of the graphic. It’s unclear as to how this could have happened but Atalanta fans on social media were furious and have asked the team not to wear the shirt and to the fans to boycott the sale of the shirt. During the night, even a banner in Zingonia, outside the venue of the club, asked that the shirt not be worn by the players for the match: “THE SHIRT IS WRONG!! OUT OF RESPECT IT SHOULD NOT BE WORN”. So in an unexpected turn of events, Atalanta has canceled the 2021 Christmas kit including the sale in the shops and the team did wear the regular 2021-22 home kit in the game against AS Roma.

In the picture above there is the Turin’s skyline which, as visible, was the one used on the Atalanta’s shirt. Below there is the Bergamo’s skyline that supposed to be the right one.
