Things to Know:
In the match against Rome, Galatasaray took the lead through Umit Karan, but for the fifth time in five games was held to a tie when Cafu, Roma’s Brazilian right back, equalized. The play was soured by ugly fouls, not least when Francesco Totti slammed his boot into a Turkish player’s shin. When the game ended a big fight between players and team’s officials started. Lima, Roma’s player, is a Brazilian who understood the insults because he spent two seasons at Galatasaray. After the match he threw more punches in a mad flurry than Mike Tyson throws at a press conference. Lima was apparently incensed by remarks made to him as he left the field by Galatasaray players and coaching staff. He kept fighting until he was stopped and pushed toward the tunnel by coach Fabio Capello. Galatasaray’s coach, Mircea Lucescu, was also in the thick of it. He was fervently remonstrating with his own staff, grabbing one assistant and pushing him toward the tunnel, cuffing the man behind the ear.
